I apologize that my thoughts for this month’s article are somewhat scattered. This is partially due to everything going on with Altus itself.

Any analysis of our current opportunities needs to be understood through the lens of our investment guidelines.

As longtime readers of the Altus Insight know, I have often been cynical of the Federal Reserve’s meddling in the economy.

It is all about little things that we think improve performance and value, but those marginal improvements add up to big things.

Trying to predict what will happen in twelve months is like trying to catch the breeze in your hands.

Even a couple of years ago I never would have imagined that Altus could be where it is today and it’s hard for me to grasp the reality of our current trajectory.

A little over a year ago three of the ten worst fires in California history blazed in the North Bay counties of Napa and Sonoma.

Two years ago we were in the middle of the refinance of one of our apartment properties. We had lined up a twelve-year fixed rate loan at a really great interest rate.

Unfortunately, with monetary cycles, and far more so than with most historical business cycles, a monetary cycle correction will affect each of our own private economies.

Knowing which things to measure is wisdom in and of itself, but the statistics produced are still worthless if good decisions then aren’t made with those statistics.
